On 1–2 July 2025, the MoSaiC Project Management Committee convened in Copenhagen for the sixth project meeting since the launch of the initiative. Hosted by project partner BRUHN NewTech, the meeting brought together consortium representatives to review progress, coordinate ongoing activities, and define the next steps toward the achievement of the project’s objectives.
Funded under the European Defence Fund (EDF), MoSaiC is an ambitious collaborative initiative dedicated to advancing Europe’s capabilities in the field of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) defence. By combining innovative sensing technologies, autonomous systems, and advanced decision-support tools, the project seeks to enhance the preparedness, situational awareness, and operational effectiveness of both military and civilian responders facing CBRN threats.
At the core of the MoSaiC vision is the development of an integrated technological ecosystem capable of supporting rapid threat detection, assessment, and response in complex operational environments. Key innovations being developed within the project include:
- Miniaturized chemical and biological sensors integrated into unmanned aerial and ground platforms, enabling the remote detection and monitoring of hazardous substances;
- Autonomous UAV-based exploration and mapping capabilities, designed to support the rapid assessment of contaminated areas while reducing risks to personnel;
- Immersive virtual reality (VR) data visualization tools for Command and Control (C2) applications, providing decision-makers with enhanced situational awareness and intuitive access to critical operational information.
Throughout the two-day meeting, partners exchanged technical and managerial updates, reviewed the progress achieved across the various work packages, and discussed the outcomes of recent testing and validation activities. Particular attention was devoted to the alignment of upcoming validation timelines and the coordination of future project milestones, ensuring a coherent and efficient path toward the integration and demonstration of the MoSaiC solution.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to refine development strategies for the coming months, strengthen collaboration among consortium members, and address key challenges associated with the deployment of advanced CBRN technologies in operational contexts.
As the project continues to progress, the commitment and expertise of the consortium remain central to achieving MoSaiC’s ambitious objectives. Through close cooperation between industry, research organizations, and end-user communities, the project is contributing to the development of next-generation capabilities that will strengthen European resilience and readiness against evolving CBRN threats.
The Copenhagen meeting marked another important step in this journey, reaffirming the consortium’s shared commitment to delivering innovative, reliable, and operationally relevant solutions in support of European defence and security.
